Fighting Fair

Why do we contend for marriage and for purity and for a Church that restores sexual sinners? It’s simple: we fight for those yet to come.

John Paul ll said it best: ‘The dignity of future generations depends on who man will be for woman and woman for man.’

We fight today for the dignity of tomorrow.

My good friend and colleague Nate Oyloe runs Outpost Ministry in St. Paul, Minn. He is currently overseeing 16 young adult interns who are as committed to Jesus as they are to sexual wholeness.

Nate says this about the battle for truth, sexually-speaking:

‘Instead of offering clarity and truth to the world, many in the Church have been swept away by the wave of delusion overtaking our nation.  We (the Church) have become passive in our handling of the truth that we are men and women created in God’s image; some Christians even fall into the mire of postmodern thinking.  Such passivity has opened the Church up to great deception.

This deception is now being passed on to the next generation.  As the Body of Christ we must stop and ask ourselves, “Is that what we want?”  Deception always ends in bondage.  A  generation is being set up for profound struggle—addictions, neurosis, disorders— rooted in a corrupt foundation handed down by the fathers and mothers of the Church.

The generation I represent is desperate for fathers and mothers who will pass on the sword of truth—their primary weapon against the enemy and his schemes.  Minus a strong foundation of truth, this generation will be left defenseless and floundering and unable to navigate relationship with God and others.

We must stand for truth in this hour because a whole generation is at stake.  The enemy is roaring and poised to devour these weak ones.  Who will raise up a standard of truth in this hour on their behalf?

Jesus is worthy of a generation with clean hands and pure hearts—a generation not given over to idolatry.  Such a generation will receive blessing and salvation from the Lord, having chosen to seek God’s face more than anything else.  Jesus is fighting for this generation.  He is the Lord, strong and mighty in battle.  He is mighty to save.  Will you join Him in such a worthy battle?’

Let us stand with Nate and many like him who are giving everything in this hour for the sake of Jesus, stern in truth, splendid in mercy. We fight for generations-yet-to-come.

Please join a group of ministries including Desert Stream, Outpost, First Stone, and Regeneration (among others) who are fighting on our knees for God’s mercy upon the truth of our sexual sin. From September 28th-Novermber 6th (Election Day), we will be praying together through a series of devotions of which I shall write more in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned!

‘The Lord will respond to the prayer of the destitute, He will not despise their plea. Let this be written for a generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord: The Lord looked down from His sanctuary on high, from heaven He viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.’
